In Australia, each state or territory has its own quarantine requirements. Figure (1) above shows both Western Australia and South Australia are the only states with honey samples tested without adulteration in the report carried out by Macquarie University in 2018. The web site of The Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia's (DAFWA) Quarantine WA service has specified that travelers are not allowed to bring honey purchased from east coast to WA for the reason that it is difficult to verify if it has been treated to meet WA standard. (Note 3)
In fact, the government of Western Australia has been promoting the domestic honey industries through intensive researches and studies especially on the antimicrobial and antioxidant activity of WA honeys. As more and more consumers become aware of the health benefits of WA honey, the globally demand for WA honey has increased substantially in recent years. The success is not just for bee farms in WA, but, for the benefits of consumers. The WA state government researches have also created awareness on the importance on analysis by accredited laboratories on antibacterial and antimicrobial properties of WA honey. (Note 4)
